Oak Park - West Cook
Local Chapter
The Oak Park chapter of FairVote Illinois is dedicated to bringing better elections to the village of Oak Park and surrounding areas, and we have been one of the most successful chapters thus far. We have secured an advisory referendum win in Berwyn as well as a binding referendum win for Oak Park, which will begin using RCV in 2027. We focus on advocacy and activism in Bellwood, Berkeley, Berwyn, Broadview, Elmhurst, Forest Park, Hillside, Hinsdale, La Grange Park, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, Oak Brook, Oak Park, River Forest, Western Springs, Westchester, and the west side of Chicago.
Meet your chapter leads!
Manolo Avalos is a graduate of Oak Park & River Forest High School and is currently attending Triton College. He is an environmental activist and experienced campaign volunteer. He worked to help elect Brian Straw to the Oak Park Village Board and helped to lead the RCV for Oak Park campaign. Manolo supports ranked choice voting as a way to increase freedom and fairness in our elections, reduce barriers for marginalized candidates, and allow voters more choice in the process.
Chris Saam has been active with FairVote Illinois for three years, canvassing on behalf of the Oak Park local RCV option in the fall of 2024. He also volunteers on local political campaigns and serves as a Commissioner on the Oak Park Citizens' Involvement Commission.
Chris, his wife and two daughters are 10-year residents of Oak Park, all of whom are supporters of Ranked Choice Voting.
